09 Sep

A tradeshow booth would not be complete without the energy and support of tradeshow talent. Whether it’s a Brand Ambassador, Spokesmodel, Promotional Model, Narrator, Product Specialist, Greeter or Crowd Gatherer you always want the best candidate to represent your brand!

Castango has compiled a list of 5 things that will make the hiring process easy and effective so you can make a qualified decision and have a successful show.

Tip #1:

Clearly specify your companies overall goals for the show and create a job description to staff the appropriate talent. Let’s say you are a technology company with a brand new software platform that you are bringing to market. The platform is very technical and you will have employees and specialist’s onsite. In this case you would need a Greeter to simply help draw people to your booth and hand out literature. They would introduce them to the technical specialists to further explain the product or service. The material may be too complex for a brand ambassador or product specialist unless trained before hand. A Greeter would be a better investment. An appliance company may want to attract a large crowd by someone demonstrating their latest state of the art refrigerator. In this case you would want to hire a narrator to perform a 3-5 minute narrated speech about the functions and benefits. With a clear goal in mind you can begin your quest to finding the appropriate talent and accomplish your goals.

Tip #2:

Plan ahead. Hiring talent can sometimes be a last minute effort when organizing a tradeshow or event, especially if travel is involved. Planning in advance is critical to set aside the budget and find someone qualified. Many of the best spokesmodels and brand ambassadors are booked far in advance and their schedules fill up quickly. To secure the best talent you must plan at least two months out so you know you will have someone qualified to show up and do a good job.

Tip #3:

faces1Develop a vetting process. It is important to qualify the talent you hire. Some people are better at some things than others. It is important to know what you are looking for as in tip # 1 and then once you find eligible candidates, have a series of questions to help ensure that the people you pick are right.

Some sample questions to ask include:

  1. How many years of experience do you have?
  2. Have you ever worked in this industry before? If so what?
  3. Are you comfortable approaching & talking to people?
  4. What is the most challenging thing you have experienced at an event?

This step is often missed and can present a problem in the long run. It is worth the effort to create a short questionnaire to make the process more effective.

Tip #4:

Ask for a commitment. Once you have vetted your talent and found the perfect person to represent your brand it is time to seal the deal. Because you are working remotely it is best to draw up a simple formal agreement stating the hours, terms and payment.

Once the agreement is signed both you and your tradeshow staff will have a clear commitment about what is to be expected and upheld. This prevents any last minute change of plans, the flake factor, and questions about getting paid. Everyone involved will be at ease allowing for a more productive event

Tip #5:

Adequately train your hired talent. This is another important step that is often missed. Preparing your tradeshow talent to execute their job is a key ingredient to a successful show.

Schedule a conference call, Skype session or meet in person to train and prepare your talent in advance.
